OCZ Storage Solutions Demonstrates Accelerated Flash-Based Storage for SQL Server 2014 at TechEd North America 2014
May 08, 2014
Demonstrations Include Next-Generation Version of ZD-XL SQL Accelerator and Extreme Performance Big Data Analytics Partnering with Panorama Software
The beta version of OCZ’s next generation ZD-XL SQL Accelerator will be demonstrated at the TechEd NA 2014 conference delivering optimized and efficient flash acceleration for Microsoft SQL Server environments through the tight integration of innovative SSD hardware and acceleration software. The demonstration showcases new SQL Server 2014 capabilities (released April 1, 2014 by Microsoft) that builds on the key features from previous SQL Server versions (2008 R2 and 2012). This includes improved storage performance, availability and manageability, such as flash Buffer Pool Extension (BPE) support, that enables database pages to be accessed faster by loading them directly from ZD-XL flash.
Next-generation ZD-XL SQL Accelerator features in support of SQL Server 2014 include:
- VMware ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisor support that enable flash resources to be deployed exactly to the needs of virtual machines (VMs) running SQL Server workloads
- Remote flash services that enable support for blade and rack servers
- Tight integration with SQL Server management that enable acceleration at a per database level versus having to accelerate all of the databases files in the SQL Server instance
- Advanced analysis and cache warm-up engine that assures the right data is on flash when it is needed by SQL Server
Also presented at the TechEd NA 2014 conference will be a technology partnership demonstration with Panorama Software, a global leader in Business Intelligence (BI) 3.0 solutions. The companies have jointly developed a solutions demonstration showcasing Panorama’s leading Necto BI capabilities with OCZ’s ZD-XL SQL Accelerator’s ability to accelerate SQL Server applications presenting how the power of data transforms businesses through data-driven insights and business intelligence delivering real-time Big Data analytics of data stored in Microsoft SQL Server 2014 databases. The result is efficient and relevant data-driven insights that lead to informed decision-making and invariably better business decisions.
To provide accelerated SQL Server performance of these big database data sets, OCZ’s ZD-XL SQL Accelerator leverages its proven PCIe SSD hardware and application-tuned software to deliver low latency flash that can be deployed as a local flash volume, a flash cache for HDD volumes, or as a combination of both. It provides a potent combination of fast flash performance, a unique cache mechanism that makes advanced and statistically-optimized decisions on what data to cache, a dynamic cache warm-up scheduler that enables workloads to be placed on flash cache in advance of demanding and critical jobs, and a wizard-based GUI that enables DBAs to setup caching policies that optimize performance based on SQL Server workloads.

About ZD-XL SQL Accelerator
ZD-XL SQL Accelerator leverages OCZ’s industry-proven PCIe SSD hardware and application-tuned software to deliver low latency flash that resolves potential SQL Server bottleneck issues enabling the flash to be deployed as a local flash volume, a flash cache for HDD volumes, or as a combination of both. This plug-and-play solution is designed for immediate use and complete High Availability (HA) via Microsoft AlwaysOn Technology so not only can SQL Server environments function at the speed of flash, but in the event of planned or unplanned downtime, can continue operations from a stopping point, retaining all of its data as if no downtime had occurred.
