In an exclusive interview with Hardware.no, the company's VP of Global Marketing, Tobias Brinkmann, explains what happened to OCZ and why he believes the company now has all the prerequisites for success.
Following the acquisition by Toshiba, OCZ now has direct access to one of the largest providers of NAND. Brinkmann describes the situation as unique, and notes that just one of their competitors - Samsung - is as well positioned as themselves.
“’The way it is now, we are a subsidiary of Toshiba that operates as a separate unit, and we have full in-house control of everything’, he said. ‘We also get an insight into which direction the development of the NAND goes, and in how the technology itself develops over time. We can then exploit that and create new features and customize our controllers or our firmware to make an even better product. Its things like these that you don’t get if you're just a customer of Toshiba, and it gives us great advantage in the future’, says Brinkmann."
“'Looking at the current products, Vertex and Vector, they are both based on our own Barefoot 3 controller and our own firmware. The quality and the return rate is the best we’ve had since we launched our first SSD. It is only a matter of time before we can convince the customers who are currently having doubts’, says Brinkman.”
