Since the Vertex 450 is based on a OCZ's own Barefoot 3 M10 controller there will be no performance drops when transferring compressed data. If you’re looking for an fast and affordable drive we highly recommend the Vertex 450.

Hardware Info

The performance is good, as the combination of the slightly lower-clocked Barefoot 3 controller and 20 nm memory works well and provides consistent performance over time. When you look at similar SSDs from other manufacturers, the pricing is pretty competitive, which would make this an interesting product.

As a system drive with the operating system and applications running from the OCZ Vertex 450, this SSD is pretty hard to fault. Its excellent reading performance ensures that applications launch very quickly, and writing performance is outstanding across the board. The OCZ Vertex 450 is a very fast SSD, competitively priced, and is a worthy successor to the original Vertex 4 series SSD

The Vertex 450 is an SSD that has been beefed up to shock, awe and conquer. The device passes 500 MB/s in both read and writes. It shines overall at read performance and is ridiculously fast at write performance, especially sustained. We can only conclude that the OCZ Vertex 450 SSD is a terrific product that we can recommend very much, it's storage sweetness.

Hardware Heaven

Performance can't really be faulted, this drive performs right at the top end of the market despite being pushed as a lower spec/price alternative to the Vector. The video related performance is great and real world tests show the Vertex 450 to compete well with drives based on alternate controllers.

The SSD Review

If there is one thing that the Barefoot 3 controller has brought to the table, it is great performance regardless of file type. Just like the Vector and the Vertex 4, the Vertex 450 easily handles 100% incompressible data that we would typically see in media files, and transfer speeds above 500MB/s are typical. The OCZ Vertex 450 is a great looking SSD with a solid build, capable of performance equal to and above that of many upper tier SSDs.

PC Perspective

The Vertex 450 handles these mixed workloads with no issue, turning in the same excellent performance seen by the Vector. This is good to see. The performance leads the pack, and now so does the price. So long as they can stay stocked at these prices, the Vertex 450 may very well become my default recommendation for an SSD.

Legit Review

Once again we have to commend OCZ for putting out a splendid drive and based on what we've seen from the Vector drive to date, it should have solid reliability to pair with its impressive performance. The Vector drive is certainly one of the best drives on the market and the Vertex 450 is not far off in terms of performance

Tech Spot

Looking at our file copy tests, the Vertex 450 256GB matched the Vector 256GB in the single large file test, it was slightly faster in the game copy test and much faster in the program copy test. The Vertex 450 looks to be a worthy successor to the Vertex 4, offering better performance, reliability and pricing.

Hot Hardware

There’s no question that OCZ has a really nice drive on its hands with the 256GB Vertex 450 SSD. In most of our benchmark tests, it either beat the competition or hung close to the top two or three drives. Regardless, the Vertex 450 showed solid consistency and great bandwidth across all workloads.
